The TQPOC program is designed to address the complex, intersectional needs of trans and queer Youth and Young Adults of Color (YYAC). TQYC recognizes that YYAC members face unique challenges at the intersection of their racial, gender, and sexual identities. These challenges often require specialized support and resources that may not be adequately addressed by more generalized programs. As such, TQYC is committed to developing and implementing dedicated programming that specifically caters to the distinct experiences, cultural contexts, and needs of YYAC individuals.
Our TQPOC program takes into account the multifaceted nature of identity and the ways in which different aspects of a person's identity can intersect to create unique lived experiences. By acknowledging these intersections, we strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment that validates and empowers YYAC members in all aspects of their identities. This approach allows us to offer more targeted and effective support, addressing issues such as racial discrimination, cultural stigma, and the compounded effects of multiple minority stresses that YYAC individuals may face.
This program also highlights the rich cultural beauty of our YYAC members. It empowers YYAC to build community and co-create spaces that are radically joyous and affirming. Drawing on TQYC's four core values, this program offers a culturally responsive, antiracist, trauma-informed, and harm-reductive platform for YYAC members to express their most authentic selves creatively.
We aim to create partnerships with local community projects/initiatives and offer support through financial resources, event collaboration and networking.
Core
Operation SPICE (Street Pride Intersectional Community Empowerment) is a Fem Queen-led movement toward collective liberation by means of first empowering the Black trans woman, who exists at multiple intersections of oppression, and yet creates the magic that is vital to a better world.
SPICE echoes the legacy of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a radical political collective which fought for transgender rights while providing shelter and food to LGBTQ youth, founded by Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera in 1970 New York City. Our values are based on the belief that “none of us are free until all of us are free.”
TQPOC aims to foster an environment that centers mutual dialogue and promotes the co-creation of new narratives, perspectives and initiatives made tangible via various art methods, a podcast and other YYAC led projects.
